Nashville, TN Baby & Family Photographer | Sweet, Sweet Chaos

Monday, November 17th, 2014

Hi, readers! I just wanted to take a quick moment to come update the blog in some form. :) If you’re a regular viewer or have had a recent portrait session, then you’ve probably noticed that I haven’t been updating as often as usual. I’m so thankful to say that it’s because life is so perfectly chaotic for me right now.

On the day of my last blog post, we put our home on the market. It was right in the middle of my busy season, but I assumed that it would take a few months for the house to sell. Much to my surprise, we sold our home in just four days and were given just 30 days to find a new home and move. This would be crazy for us at any point in the year, but especially when my business calendar was fuller than it’s ever been.

So, I’ve been shooting, editing, and delivering gorgeous products in between the house hunting, packing, and endless paperwork. Sadly, that just doesn’t leave much time for blogging. Rest assured, you’ll be overloaded with lots of cuteness when I get settled into my new home and get my office set up again. I currently have about fifteen baby/family sessions and nine senior portrait sessions that need to be blogged!

In the meantime, you can view some of the sneak peaks on my Facebook page and sign up for my newsletter via the tab on the left over there.     <———–

I’ll catch up here soon! :)

Nashville, TN Portrait Photographer: Your Perfect Wall Collection

Wednesday, February 6th, 2013

I’m excited to be showcasing something new and fun today!  One of the ways that I cater to my clients is by having an image premiere to show them their images for the first time. After we watch a slideshow of their images and then sort through proofs, we start looking at what images to display on their walls.

I looooove canvas collections and think that they’re the perfect way to showcase your beautiful new art. The app that I have on my iPad lets me take a photo of your wall and show your new images in different configurations. We can decide which images you want to use and the best crop for each of them. You get to see exactly what you’re purchasing before you ever place your order, and you can be certain that the collection will fit perfectly. Isn’t that sweet!?!

Here are a few collections that I created using the stock rooms that area already in the app.

Huge shoutout to Chris and Adrienne Scott for creating the Preveal app. My clients have been loving it and I’ve been so thrilled to use it to create beautiful wall collections.

If this got you excited for your own portrait session, feel free to give me a call (931.319.3689) or fill out the contact form.  Your walls will thank you later. ;)

Catching Up | Nashville Photographer

Saturday, March 19th, 2011

I originally started to blog for a few reasons (to give clients and idea of who I am, to document my progress, etc.) and it just hit me that I’m not doing a very good job of it. I’m not completely saddened by this, because the things that I AM doing instead of blogging are so important. I wanted to take some time today to let you know what I’ve been up to. I’m going to apologize in advance for such a messy post. Maybe I should try bullets. :)

* Networking, networking, and more networking: It’s been one the best things for my business, as well as for my soul. When you love something, a great way to love it more is to surround yourself with other people who love it. (Are you picking up what I’m laying down?)   In December, I reached out to a photographer here in Nashville who invited me to a monthly meet-up with some of the best photographers around. Since then, things have just snowballed into something amazing. I’m attending photographers’ meetings at least twice a month and getting so much out of it. It’s nice have a place where you can go and talk to your peers about what works, what doesn’t work, and what you’re going to make work if it’s the last thing you do!  Not only have I been attending those meetings, there’s also the occasional seminar, afternoon lunch, or late-night dinners. I always leave with my brain spinning and my cheeks hurting.

*Upgrading my equipment:  I recently purchased a new Canon 7D and I’m loving it so far. I would like to make the jump to a full-frame camera, but it will come with time. I’ve also been stocking up on prime lenses and almost have the full arsenal that I “need”. Basically, I’ve upgraded everything that I was shooting with when I started my business last April. I even have a cute JoTotes bag and Shootsac to carry it all in style. :)

* Charity work: As you’ve seen on my blog, I was one of the photographers for the Hope, Faith, & Photos for a Cure event. I also just photographed the 13th Annual Mardi Gras Ball for the Genesis House. Both of those events were so much fun and I was honored to be able to help.

* Sampling different album and product companies:  One of my goals for this year is to offer a variety of fabulous products for you to choose from. This would include different types of prints, albums, canvases, and other small and fun items. I’ve been narrowing down the companies that I will be working with, and I can’t wait to share some of the new and exciting things I’ll be offering.

*Booking!! I’m so glad to say that 2011 looks like it’s going to be the year I had hoped it would be. I’ve been booking everything from newborn sessions to weddings, birthday parties to fashion shoots, and much more. I still have a long way to go to build Erin Smagala Photography up to where it can be, but I’m loving every minute of it.

*Last but not least, photographing some of the best clients ever:  January-April is usually a slow time in this industry for shooting. I’m glad to have the time to focus on my full-time job and husband, but I love the occasional sessions that have come my way. I will be blogging about sweet Marley’s session soon! Right now I need to go prepare for tomorrow’s wedding. I will be assisting my friend Anna from Photography by Anna Rebecca. It looks like there will be quite a few blogs coming your way!
